Malawi is a presidential republic headed by Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika who, since 2004, when he was elected, adopted a strong policy development in the country, targeting mainly the fight against corruption, strengthening and stabilizing the local economy .
Malawi is situated in South- East of Africa and is a country morphologically , long and landlocked, borders in the north with Tanzania, and Zambia in the west and in the east and south with Mozambique.
It is predominantly rural and covers an area of 118,485 square kilometers with a population of about 13.1 million people and a population density of 139 inhabitants per sq km.
The administrative capital is the city of Lilongwe, with about 1 million 897mile inhabitants, while the capital "economic" is Blantyre in the south, with about 1 million of inhabitants.
The country is crossed from north to south by the Great Rift Valley and Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa, which covers about 20% of the country.
From the southern end of Lake the Shire River was born, which flows into the Zambezi in Mozambique and culminates through the Channel of Mozambique in the Indian Ocean.
At the west of the Rift Valley, the territory is characterized by vast highlands,of height between 900 and 1200 meters above the sea level.
In the north we find the Nyika Uplands which reach the altitude of 2,600 meters,at the south of the lake, we find the Shire Highlands which start from 600 up to 1600 meters and are joined to the mountains, Zomba and Mulanje, respectively 2130 and 3048 meters high .
In the extreme south we find the plain.
