Zimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe is a country in southern Africa, situated between the Zambezi and the Limpopo River.

It borders in the north with Zambia,in the east with Mozambique in the south by South Africa and in the west with Botswana. It was once known as Southern Rhodesia or simply Rhodesia.

Zimbabwe is named after an important archaeological site in the country, Great Zimbabwe, whose name is itself derived from the expression language Shona remabwe Zimba ("great stone house").

The previous name "Rhodesia" was instead in honor of Cecil Rhodes, who gave rise to the colony whose independence was born the modern Zimbabwe.

Its population is of 12,576,742 inhabitants (2003),and has  an area of 390,757 km square, the capital is Harare, known until 1980 under the name of Salisbury.

It is landlocked but the rainfall is fairly frequent and abundant inland.

With a good supply of water and a favorable climate, we can say that the country's geographic characteristics are most hospitable to those of many other African territories.

Thanks to the special protection given to the valuable and diverse natural environment and animals, Zimbabwe has always been one of the most visited countries in Africa.

The area is rather uniform with a plateau between the Limpopo River (South) and the Zambezi (North).

The highest peaks, which lie north and northeast ridges and Mavuradona Inyangani, slope down towards the Mozambique never exceed 2500-2600 m altitude.

The territory is divided into three groups according to altitude: Low Veld (0-700 meters), medium Veld (700-1200 meters) high Veld (higher altitudes).

The territory is part of Zimbabwe's southern African continental plate and has covered in crystalline archeozoich masses recovered by sediments.

Because of tectonic events affecting the portion of the plate corresponding to the territory of Zimbabwe, has developed a volcanic activity which has in turn resulted in the formation of diamond deposits, many across the country.

Surely the main river of the country is the Zambezi, which serves as the border with neighboring state of Zambia, it powers the hydroelectric reservoir of Kariba and Victoria Falls gives life. The

 Its main affluents are the Gwayi and Sanyati.

In the south the Limpopo, who was born in Upper Veld, demarcates the border with the Transvaal region of South Africa.
