Nigeria - Country Presentation

This is a program recently implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and ICE, which aims to present to the entrepreneurs and organizations interested internationalization, investment potential and opportunities for intensification of trade - economic trade with individual countries or geographic area with homogeneous.

The Chamber of Commerce ItalAfrica  Centrale participated to the Nigeria Country Presentation held  on 16 iJune at the International Conference Hall of Ministry.

Among the speakers there were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Franco Frattini, ENI President Dr. Roberto Poli, the Minister of Trade and Industry of Nigeria, Dr. Achik Udenwa, Ambassador of Nigeria to Italy, Dr. Effiong Asuqwo of the Ministry of Trade and Industry ,and finally by the Director of Commerce of the Department of Commerce and Industry Badeji Abikoye.

The representatives of Nigeria during the meeting have exposed the country's economic framework, the industrial and trade policies, tax systems and incentives aimed at attracting foreign investors and traders.

In particular were presented programs to attract foreign investment in Nigeria  by Hajia Ladi Katagun of the  Nigerian Commission  for Investment Promotion (NIPC) and the establishment of "Free Zones" created in Nigeria to encourage foreign companies to settle in the country and especially in the Oil & Gas.

The Italian institutions, particularly SACE and Simest, have instead shown the financial instruments designed to support entrepreneurs wishing to invest abroad.

Finally Mrs. Cristina Carbognani, member of the  ConfAPI council, and Pier Luigi d'Agata, General Director of Assafrica, explained various projects concerning training and innovation for Africa Sub-Saharan Africa, and various partnerships between the European Union African Union (EU - AU) to promote the participation in tenders expected in several areas and especially for the infrastructure sector fiber optic, telecommunications, major river basins and energy and hydroelectric.

In the afternoon the meeting was followed by bilateral meetings between companies and institutions present in order to investigate the issues raised during the morning.
