Burundi is a small African country of 27,830 square kilometers of area.
It borders with by Rwanda in the north,with the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the west,with Tanzania in the south and east.
It is located in the geographical region of the Great Lakes and is a landlocked state.
The capital is Bujumbura.
Burundi is located in the Great Lakes. The entire territory of the country consists of a plateau with an average altitude of 1700 m. The highest point is Mount Karonje (2685 m), located in the southeast of the capital. In the south and southeast the edges of the plateau come down to about 1300 m. The only area located at less than 1000 m is a strip of land around the river Ruzizi (in the north of Lake Tanganyika), which forms the Albertine Rift, western offshoot of the Great Rift Valley.
