LOCAL TRANSPORT

The fastest way to travel within the country is by Air Gabon, which connects with Lamabaréné Libreville, Port Gentil, Franceville and other major cities.

Also trains are very punctual and efficient.
Within the same city, you can instead move with minibuses to any destination which are certainly more affordable and safe than the bush taxies.

In the capital you can find several car rental agencies which apply astronomical rates.

To drive in Gabon  it is necessary an international driving license,and driving is on the right.


ROAD NETWORK

In Gabon the main arterial roads are named and classified by prefix (letters N or RN) followed by the serial number that distinguishes them, but still today  few roads are paved.


AIRPORT

The airport of LIBREVILLE
Libreville's airport is named as  the first President of the State, and is the main
airport in Gabon.

It is located several miles at the north of the city. It is possible to reach the center of the city by taxi or by using private minibuses, white or red.

The asked price for the rental of a car is very high and often the use of the vehicle is
limited only to Libreville and its surroundings. The airport has a parking fee for both long and short stops. The distance from the center of the city is 12 km.

The main airlines are: Air France, Royal Air Maroc, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta
Airlines.
Runways: 16/34 3000x45m.
There are two other airports: Port Gentil which is at 3 from the city and Franceville.

ORTS

The port of LIBREVILLE
It is situated on an estuary at about 9 miles south-east of the city.

The port is equipped with special structure, exactly, a container terminal and a storage room for the cocoa. Also there are facilities for timber and an oil terminal  for manganese.

Storage facilities at the commercial port include 15,000 m² of enclosed space.

Storage facilities of wood  include a  wood shop floating on 40 acres of water and 12 acres of open space on the ground.

For access to the storage area for heavy timber, it is available the rail.

The port is mainly used for the commercialization of rubber, coconut, palm trees and products made from tropical wood.

The port of PORT GENTIL
It  is situated  on the Atlantic coast of Africa, and is one of the main ports of Gabon.
Although primarily known as a commercial port and fishing, is also used for timber and oil. The discharge is managed using ships.

An area of 30 hectares is used for customs, with 6000 m2 of warehouse beside the wharf. Furthermore, the port has a cold storage facility for fish.
It is served by 19,000 m2 of paved roads and 2000 m2 of paved surface.

Among the main products imported from Italy  there is the cut and planed wood, veneer sheets and plywood and non-ferrous metal ores.

Among the main products exported from Italy to the African country, they are growing vegetables prepared or preserved, automatic machines  for dosage, packaging and packing and other machine tools.

The legal currency in circulation is the franc (CFA).

Vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory.

It is also necessary to pay attention to dairy products and ice cream.


TOURISM

It is suggested to visit the city of Libreville, which offers the beautiful beach of Cap Esterias where rocks abound with sea urchins, oysters and lobsters, the National Museum, the Cathedral of St. Michael and Mount Bouet. Moreover, villages of  M'Bigoun and Etek, famous for their local craftsman and the gold mines, the charming Mayumba between sea and lake, and finally, the region of the Plateau Batéké which offers savannah and forest.


CLIMATE

Gabon has an equatorial type of climate, warm and humid.

There are two dry seasons: one that runs from May to September and the other from December to January. The dry seasons alternate with rainy seasons during which the rainfall is torrential.

The period from May to September is the best.


LANGUAGE

In Gabon ,French, the official language is spoken.


RELIGION

60% of the population is Catholic, 20% indigenous beliefs, 19% Protestant and 1% Muslim. Much of the population professes the Catholic or Protestant in practical reality African cults.

 
VISAS
