Rwanda  is a country in East Africa whose capital is Kigali. It borders in the west with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the north with Uganda,in the east with Tanzania and in the south with Burundi. The country is landlocked.

The territory is mostly mountainous (the average altitude is 1700 m asl). The measurements were developed in the Cenozoic era, with the formation of the Rift Valley of Africa.

The main chain is that of the Virunga mountains (average altitude 2700 m), located in the northwest of the country, in which there is the highest peak (Karisimbi, 4507 m),and in the chain there are several active volcanoes.

The chain is a watershed between the basins of the two major rivers of the area, the Nile and the Congo.

The flattest area is in the east, characterized by numerous lakes and shallow marshes.

Rwanda is crossed by numerous seasonal rivers, which flow of water depends on rainfall. The most important is the Kagera, which runs alongside the eastern border of the country and it is the source of the Nile. In the west flow Ruzizi, which flows into Lake Tanganyika, and the Luguka, an affluent of the River Congo. Lake Kivu is the largest (2650 km ², 1459 m asl).

Rwanda is in the equatorial zone, but, because of its altitude,it  has a temperate climate, considered among the most healthful whole African continent.

The average temperature is 20 ° C. Rainfalls are not very abundant (between 1000 and 1400 mm annually, with higher values on the Virunga) and are concentrated in two periods of the year (March to May and October-December).

Only occasionally the country is hit by droughts.

The current president is Paul Kagame.
